Alpena Community College will host a local gathering Oct. 21 at the Granum Theatre as part of the Bridge Michigan Issues Summit, bringing a statewide conversation about Michigan’s future to Northeast Michigan.
The event is being held as communities commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The statewide summit is designed to bring Michiganders together to examine issues affecting communities across the state.

Bridge Michigan is producing the inaugural summit. Its panels will draw on Bridge Michigan’s yearlong reporting initiative, Bridge listens, and will be moderated by Bridge Michigan reporters.
Planned discussion areas include health, education, the environment, and the economy and affordability. The Alpena gathering will give residents an opportunity to follow that broader discussion while adding a Northeast Michigan perspective.
In-person and virtual participation
The summit will be available virtually, but organizers say attending in person at ACC’s Granum Theatre will allow participants to watch the statewide discussion together. Attendees can then take part in live local dialogue during breakout sessions focused on how the issues affect communities and the region.
