The Alpena High School tennis team earned a 5-3 victory over Sandusky in Saturday’s high school tennis action, with Alpena taking all four singles flights.
Alpena controls singles play
Will Meinhart led Alpena with an 8-6 win over Brock Kaufman at No. 1 singles. Theo Stafford defeated David Carlson 8-2 at No. 2, while Dillon Gagnon beat Joey Rich 8-3 at No. 3. Sam Hainstock completed the singles sweep with an 8-4 victory over Brooks Wedge at No. 4.
Sandusky wins two doubles matches
Sandusky answered with a win at No. 1 doubles. Blake Bowerman and Brandon Shampo defeated Alpena’s Austin DeRosia and Thaddeus Seacrest 8-0.
Alpena’s Jackson Wallace and Brody Engstrom secured the Wildcats’ other doubles win, beating Addison Baumeister and Grace Riehl 8-3 at No. 2.
At No. 3 doubles, Sandusky’s Joseph Franzel and Reilly Nugent defeated Otto Dahleen and Austin Lasagna of Alpena 8-2. Sandusky also received No. 4 doubles by default over Landon DiMarzo and Alex Dikeman, 2-0, 2-0.
