The Alpena High School girls swimming team opened its dual meet against Alma with a relay victory and finished with a 108-60 win Tuesday, Sept. 15, according to The Alpena News.
Alpena builds an early lead
Elizabeth Rabbideau, Penelope Conboy, Tryst Bukowiecki and Haley Stenz won the opening 200-yard medley relay for Alpena. Olivia Sherwood, Gabriella Tolan, Eva Trainer and Emma Darga finished third in the event and established a personal record.
Arabella Nunez won the 200-yard freestyle, while Jacquelyn Frantz finished second with a personal record. Conboy won the 200-yard individual medley, and both Tolan and Sherwood also posted personal records.
Multiple individual wins and records
Bukowiecki and Stenz placed first and second in the 50-yard freestyle. Bukowiecki later won the 100-yard butterfly, followed by Nunez in second and Trainer in third; both Nunez and Trainer recorded personal records.
Stenz finished second in the 100-yard freestyle. Ellie Quick took third with a personal record, and Emma Winfield placed fourth. Rabbideau won the 500-yard freestyle, with Tolan finishing third.
Alpena also won the 200-yard freestyle relay with Conboy, Nunez, Stenz and Bukowiecki. Quick, Winfield, Frantz and Trainer placed second.
Strong finish in final events
Rabbideau finished third in the 100-yard backstroke. Frantz won the 100-yard breaststroke with a personal record, while Conboy finished second.
Alpena placed second in the closing 400-yard freestyle relay with Winfield, Darga, Nunez and Rabbideau. Quick, Sherwood, Lucy Duthler and Frantz finished third, with Frantz recording another personal record.
The meet also included a connection to Alpena’s swimming history: former Alpena swimmer Sarah Rabbideau, now competing for Alma College, joined the team for a photo after the meet.
