The Alpena Wildcats girls’ golf team strengthened its position in the Big North Conference race Wednesday, winning the Cadillac Invitational with a score of 374 in the varsity field.
The victory was Alpena’s third of the season and left the Wildcats tied with Traverse City West in the conference standings. The BNC title will be decided at the conference championship Thursday, Oct. 1, followed by regional competition Monday, Oct. 5.
Four Alpena golfers finish among the leaders
Grace Bouchard led the Wildcats with an 86, good for second place individually. Carli Susewitz shot 93 and tied for fourth, while Caroline Robertson carded a 96 to tie for sixth.
Claire Kinzey finished with a 99, followed by Sam Silver at 102 and Hannah Brownridge at 108. On the junior varsity side, Vivian Robertson placed fifth with a 112.
Wildcats lower scores heading into postseason stretch
Alpena has steadily lowered its scores heading into the final portion of the season. The Cadillac win gives the team momentum as it prepares for the conference championship and the regional tournament in early October.
