Alpena’s varsity swim team split its second competition of the 2026 season, losing to Gaylord before responding with a victory over Ludington. Gaylord defeated Alpena 578-564, while Alpena beat Ludington 592-388.

The meet also featured numerous personal bests across individual races and relays. Coach Jennifer Johnson identified the broad improvement as the standout development, with several Alpena swimmers making significant gains from last season and first-year swimmers producing strong performances.

Personal records across the lineup

Olivia Sherwood, Gabriella Tolan, Lucy Duthler and Emma Darga combined for a personal-best time in the 200-yard medley relay. Tolan also set a personal record in the 200-yard individual medley.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Aubree Baur, Emma Darga and Emma Winfield each posted personal bests. Duthler and Arabella Nunez recorded personal records in the 100-yard butterfly, while Haley Stenz and Ellie Quick did the same in the 100-yard freestyle.

Darga, Tolan and Elizabeth Rabbideau each set personal bests in the 500-yard freestyle. Quick, Tolan, Jacquelyn Frantz and Eva Trainer combined for a personal-record performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Aubree Bauer also set a personal best in the 100-yard backstroke, according to the source. The report spells the swimmer’s surname as both “Baur” and “Bauer.”

Relay teams continue to improve

Quick, Winfield, Duthler and Frantz recorded a personal-best performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Sherwood, Darga, Nunez and Rabbideau also turned in a strong effort in that event.

Johnson praised the team’s effort and linked its continued progress to work in the pool. “It was a great meet by everyone, and the continued improvement from last season is a testament to the team’s hard work, determination and commitment in the pool,” Johnson said.
