Alpena High School’s girls swim team opened its meet against Cadillac with a relay victory and finished with a 98-71 win Monday, giving the Wildcats a strong team performance across individual and relay events.
Rabbideau, Bukowiecki and Stenz lead individual wins
Elizabeth Rabbideau, Penelope Conboy, Tryst Bukowiecki and Haley Stenz won the opening 200-yard medley relay for Alpena. Rabbideau added victories in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
Bukowiecki won the 50-yard freestyle and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly, while Stenz won the 100-yard freestyle and finished third in the 50 free. Conboy took second in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke.
Alpena also received runner-up finishes from Arabella Nunez in the 200-yard freestyle and Emma Darga in the 100-yard freestyle. Nunez placed third in the 100-yard butterfly, while Jacquelyn Frantz finished third in the 200 free and 100-yard breaststroke.
Relay teams add depth to team win
Gabriella Tolan placed third in the 500-yard freestyle, and Olivia Sherwood was third in the 100-yard backstroke. In relay events, Alpena’s 200-yard freestyle team of Conboy, Nunez, Stenz and Bukowiecki finished second. Ellie Quick, Eva Trainer, Tolan and Frantz took third.
The closing 400-yard freestyle relay saw Sherwood, Darga, Nunez and Rabbideau finish second. Quick, Madelyn Farley, Lucy Duthler and Frantz placed third.
Coach Jennifer Johnson said several Alpena swimmers recorded personal-best times. The team’s next meet is scheduled for Sept. 29 against John Glenn.
