The Alpena High School girls’ golf team reached two major milestones Monday at the Traverse City West Invitational in Interlochen. The Wildcats won the tournament with a team score of 383, while Grace Bouchard captured medalist honors and broke her own Alpena school record.
Bouchard finished with a 74, one stroke better than the record-setting 75 she previously held. Her performance led Alpena to the team victory and continued a strong season for the Wildcats.

Carli Susewitz was Alpena’s next-highest finisher, placing sixth with a 91. The rest of the Wildcats’ reported scores were Caroline Robertson with 107, Hannah Brownridge with 111, Sammi Silver with 112 and Claire Kinzey with 113.
Alpena currently leads the Big North Conference in points, adding to the significance of the tournament win as the team works toward its season goals.
Wildcats set sights on regionals and state finals
Coach Courtney Nunneley said the team’s progress represents a level no previous Alpena girls’ golf team has reached. The Wildcats began the season aiming to return to the state finals as a team and win a regional title.
“I’m very proud of how hard our girls have worked to be able to play at the level they are playing at,” Nunneley said.
Monday’s victory was Alpena’s second tournament win of the season. Nunneley said the result made a regional championship appear more attainable and praised the players’ work.
“This is now the second tournament we’ve won this year and that makes winning regionals seem that much more possible,” she said.
