More than 100 Alpena Community College students visited The Market at ACC earlier this week for an open house that combined a free meal with an introduction to campus resources.
The college served soup and bread to students until the food ran out during the event. For many attendees, it was their first visit to The Market at ACC, according to the college.
A first look at The Market at ACC
ACC said in a Facebook post that the event gave students an opportunity to share feedback and learn more about the resources available through The Market. The college also thanked nutritionist Jess Krawczak, whom it described as a quickly familiar presence among students.
The lunch was made possible through ACC’s Hunger Free Campus Grant. The grant supported the college’s effort to connect students with food and other available campus assistance.
Why the open house mattered
By pairing an informal lunch with an introduction to The Market, the event helped students who had not previously visited the resource learn where it is and what support may be available. ACC’s account indicates that student feedback was part of the event’s focus.
