Alpena’s boys tennis team delivered a complete performance Thursday, defeating Harbor Springs 8-0. The Alpena lineup won every singles match and took six of the eight doubles contests, including two victories awarded by forfeit.
Alpena controls singles play
Will Meinhart opened the singles results with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Harbor Springs’ Camden Whitfield at No. 1. Theo Stafford followed with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Lance Schmitter at No. 2.
Dillon Gagnon faced the closest singles match, defeating Noah Marquardt 7-6 (7), 6-3 at No. 3. Sam Hainstock won the No. 4 singles match by forfeit.
Three doubles matches go to Alpena
Alpena’s No. 1 doubles team of Austin DeRosia and Thaddeus Seacrest rallied past Keegan Kisabeth and John Westbrook, 6-7 (7), 6-4, 10-5.
Jackson Wallace and Brody Engstrom also recovered after dropping the opening set, defeating Brian Forester and Matthew Summers 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3, Otto Dahleen and Landon DiMarzo edged Ben Ness and Jacob Vroman 7-6 (7), 4-6, 10-8. Lachlan Knowlton and Alex Dikeman won the No. 4 doubles match by forfeit.
The 8-0 result gave Alpena a sweep of the team competition, with the Wildcats collecting decisive wins in the top two singles spots and three doubles matches that were played on the court.
